في تدوينة له كتب د/ الشيخ أحمد ولد البان "ترك الرفقة في اللحظات الحاسمة والحرجة ليس من قيم الفروسية، قد يكون منسجما مع الفلسفة الميكافيلية -حسب الفهم السائد لها-
ولكنه غير منسجم إطلاقا مع الفلسفة الأخلاقية العربية التي لخص أبو البختري منطقها بقوله:
لا يسلم ابن حرة زميله**حتى يموت أو يرى سبيله
أعرف أن هذه ليست عرصات بدر حتى نستحضر أبا البختري، ولكنه أيضا ليس بلاط لورينزو الثاني حتى نطبق تعاليم نيقولا ميكافيلي.
أنسب وقت لترك الرفقة هو بعد وصولها إلى المدينة أو على الأقل بعد أن تأمن من فتك وحوش الغابة.
